Chocolate Covered Halloween Pretzels

Candy is not the only yummy thing to eat on Halloween. You might be looking for a fun alternative that screams spooky and delicious. Well, chocolate covered pretzels are the way to go! With a bit of sweet and a pinch of salty, they are a simple and festive treat to celebrate the holiday.

Personally, I bake almost every weekend, so I usually have all the ingredients on hand. This recipe does not call for anything too crazy so you might already have everything you need. To make these pretzels you will need; wax paper, pretzel rods, melting chocolate for dipping and an array of fun sprinkles. (You may also want to make a bit of room in your freezer ahead of time!)

First things first, get that water boiling! I prefer to melt my chocolate on the stove as opposed to melting it in the microwave. Chocolate hardens quickly so I like to keep stirring it over the hot water on the stove instead of having to reheat it when it cools. (*While you are waiting for you water to heat, line a dish with wax paper!*) Once your water is boiling, go ahead and add your chocolate to a heat safe bowl and place it on top of your boiling pot of water. Make sure that your bowl is not immersed in the water. The steam should from the water should be enough to melt the chocolate. Feel free to play with the temperature as well – you may need to turn down the burner so that chocolate does not burn.

Stir! As your chocolate is melting, stir it around. Remember, we do not want it to burn so keep your eye on the temperature. Once you notice that your chocolate is a thin enough consistency to spoon over or dip your pretzels in, grab those rods and get to work!

You can cover as much or a little of the pretzel as you would like. After you have covered your pretzel, place it on the plate or dish lined with wax paper. Cover as many as will fit on the plate!

Now it’s time for the fun part – sprinkles!! As you place your pretzels on the wax paper, you’re going to want to cover them with sprinkles. Might I suggest having a partner? (This is a great job for kids!) Get creative and have fun!

After you have sprinkled ‘til your heart’s content, pop those pretzels in the freezer! I usually wait about 10 minutes or the amount of time it takes me to dip and decorate another plate of pretzels! Before you take them out, just check to make sure the chocolate is hardened so you can enjoy them!

That’s it! Making chocolate covered pretzels is super quick, easy and quite fun. Enjoy!
